General Summary
The Ministry Coordinator will serve within DePaul’s Division of Mission and Ministry, specifically as a member of the Religious Diversity and Pastoral Care team to develop and sustain meaningful and diverse Jewish and interfaith learning opportunities. To this end, the Coordinator will develop, implement, and support DePaul-sponsored and student-centered/led opportunities for Jewish and interfaith learning and support. She/he will tend to the spiritual development and formation of Jewish students, encourage active and regular participation in service, and provide integral support and advising to Jewish student organizations. The Ministry Coordinator will also work collaboratively with colleagues within the Division and throughout the university as well as with external organizations in support of the DePaul Jewish community and inter-faith cooperation. The Coordinator will work closely with team members and others within the Division to develop and implement outreach strategies around social media and direct student contact. on behalf of multi-faith ministries.
Responsibilities & Duties
Jewish Life Coordination: Provide coordination of all facets of Jewish Life Ministry at DePaul.
Supervise and mentor Jewish life student leaders and workers; provide Vincentian and Jewish formation, spiritual support, and faith learning to Jewish students, faculty, and staff; provide pastoral care to Jewish students, faculty, and staff.
Provide primary leadership in coordinating and facilitating regular Shabbat services and annual High Holidays; coordinate, assist in planning, support students in leading Jewish life events such as service and reflection, Interfaith Seders, Yom Hashoah memorial events, Hillel based events, Chabad events, Jewish community events in the greater Chicago area; support students by attending major Jewish events on campus; oversee Community Ministry Associates connected to the Jewish community.
Interfaith Coordination: Serve as member of Interfaith Staff Team.
Provide weekly supervision and leadership training for three to six Interfaith scholars.
Facilitate Vincentian and inter-religious dialogue, education, and formation for scholars; supervise regular service and reflection activities for scholars
Advise scholars in program development and facilitation for quarterly large-scale events and a minimum of six small-scale events throughout the academic year; and support scholars by attending major events.
Social Medial and Outreach Coordination: Develop and implement social media outreach for the Pastoral Care and Religious Diversity office and coordinate.
Oversee, and assist in facilitating divisional outreach activities/programs such as Traditions Tours, Welcome Week BBQ, Vinnie Fest, etc.
Perform administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
Perform divisional responsibilities based on needs and individual skill sets.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree
Master’s degree preferred.
At least two years of experience in Jewish student support.
At least two years of experience, study, or work within an inter-religious discipline or setting, including training or experience in interfaith dialogue.
Preferred Requirements
Master’s degree, Jewish studies
Background in ministry/theology, and/or community service-related field.
At least two years of professional experience in social media development and posting.
At least two years of professional speaking experience.
A minimum of one year of experience working with young adults, preferably in higher education.
Managerial Responsibilities
No direct staff reports.
Supervises a team of student workers and oversees student religious organization leaders.
Manages relationships with relevant outside partners.
Financial Responsibilities
Manages assigned annual budget for programs and activities under her/his purview (approximately $5,000 general budget plus additional High Holidays budget).
Consults with supervisor throughout the year on budget decisions that fall outside of established annual budget expenses.
Per university expectations, manages and reports regularly on budget and procard expenditures, submitting reports, receipts, contracts, and all other financially-related matters accurately and in a timely fashion.
Understands good stewardship as a core Vincentian value.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to move frequently around campus and travel between campuses.
Light lifting (up to 25 pounds).
Other Skills & Abilities Required
Ability to effectively articulate fundamental theological beliefs of the Jewish traditions.
Ability to lead in public prayer, rituals (particularly related to Jewish and inter-religious traditions).
Ability to encourage and lead students in spiritual learning, exploration, and formation through theological reflections based on spiritual, religious and/or ethical values.
Ability to foster connections between spirituality and social action.
Ability to communicate effectively on integration of faith and justice, encouraging and leading students in spiritual learning, exploration, and formation.
Ability to listen attentively, provide pastoral guidance, and respond pastorally, particularly around the specific needs and issues of young adults and in moments of crisis.
Ability to work collaboratively with University staff, faculty, and external partners.
Ability to coordinate and oversee large- and small-scale outreach events.
Ability to lead/guide and effectively negotiate group and human dynamics with students and student groups within a large, complex institution.
Knowledge of and interest in Catholic social teaching.
Ability to communicate effectively and educate/train students and others in the DePaul community about the faith/spiritual/religious dimensions of the Catholic-Vincentian mission.
Ability to develop and implement outreach events through numerous media.
Familiarity with database processing, multiple social media platforms, budgeting, and event planning.
Excellent leadership, administration, organization, networking, and collaboration skills.
